Iron Terminator is back with a new look

He said “I'll be back” – and he really did! After a short break, Iron Terminator is back on the European shelves, both physical and online. It’s a wheel cleaner with features that set it apart from the entire detailing industry. The product has also received new labels. Here's what you need to know.

This metallic deposit remover, valued across Europe, has received a new design and more. Completely new sizes have also been introduced to Soft99 partners: we have expanded the range with 5- and 20-liter canisters, encouraging not only detailing stores but also owners of studios and car washes to give our Japanese chemical technology a try. The most noticeable change, however, is the new look of the standard 500-milliliter bottle. What exactly has changed?

New labels

The “new” Iron Terminator is still the same powerful wheel cleaner you know, but we made a significant revolution in the design of its labels. Both the front and the back have been updated.

We focused primarily on readability: the product name and category come first. On the “cover,” we also highlighted key product features (described in more detail in the second part of this blog post), including the aspects that truly set this product apart – neutral pH and paint-safe performance.

The work wouldn't be complete without unique Soft99 accents, namely Japanese kanji characters that emphasise where we come from. Soft99 is a Japanese company and we want to highlight that heritage. How? By saying: 日本製, nihonsei, which simply means “made in Japan.” Simple and effective. The same characters also decorate the top of the rear label.

On the back, Iron Terminator received a new information layout: we focused on clear and simple instructions for use in two languages. The product enters the market with several different back-label versions, allowing us to serve more than a dozen language groups among our customers.

What makes Iron Terminator stand out?

Iron Terminator has been with us since the very beginning of Soft99’s presence in Europe – since 2014. It is an indispensable product forming the foundation of deep cleaning and decontamination processes carried out before applying waxes or coatings. So what does “the Iron” contain and how does it work?

Safe to use: neutral pH, water-based

These two key characteristics combine to create a level of safety that truly distinguishes Iron Terminator from similar products within the entire detailing industry. And that’s because Soft99 chemists chose an unconventional formula when developing the product.

Most wheel cleaners, fallout removers, or “bleeding wheel cleaners” on the market owe their effectiveness to formulas based on sodium thioglycolate, a chemical compound that reacts strongly with metallic contaminants such as flash rust or brake dust.

Iron Terminator, on the other hand, is water-based and its dominant chemical compound is ammonium mercaptoacetate. This compound is chemically similar to sodium thioglycolate (both are salts and reducing agents), but the difference lies in their counter-ions (sodium vs. ammonium), which affect their solubility and pH behaviour in solution.

In addition, the formula of Iron Terminator also includes surfactants and other minor ingredients that contribute to its effectiveness in removing metallic contamination. This effectiveness is clearly visible in the red stream of dissolved metallic dirt – a characteristic effect of products in this category.

Combined with its neutral pH (7.5) and unique formula, Iron Terminator ensures safe performance not only on wheels but also on paintwork and glass.

Minimised odour

Even at the time of its market launch (2014), the product stood out in the then-emerging detailing industry: among wheel cleaning products, it was distinguished by its minimised odour – a characteristic it retains to this day. Those who worked with early brake dust cleaners probably remember their intense and unpleasant smell.

In Iron Terminator, Soft99 engineers reduced this odour to a minimum. This approach is characteristic of Japanese detailing products, as Japanese customers value odourless or minimally scented products, associating this trait with neutrality and honesty – after all, an artificial fragrance should not mask anything “wrong” in the product’s composition.

Removal of metallic contamination

The category “wheel cleaner” certainly does not fully describe its capabilities: it is a powerful yet safe cleaning product that effectively deals with stubborn metallic dirt and brake dust deposits.

These deposits most often accumulate on wheels, which is why in the detailing industry such products are often referred to as “wheel acid.” However, this slang name can be misleading: as mentioned earlier, such products can easily have a neutral pH that is safe for paint, not just wheels.

As for the type of dirt we aim to remove, it is almost everywhere. Sometimes even a short drive behind a multi-axle truck with worn brakes can cause visible contamination on the front of a vehicle. Wax, coatings, or PPF can help to some extent, but the best solution is, of course, regular deep cleaning.

This type of contamination is a nightmare for anyone who cares about maintaining a flawless car appearance. Such dirt does not disappear during conventional hand washing or at a car wash. Regular shampoos usually remove the visible layer of dark grime, but many particles of metallic contamination remain embedded in the paint and other surfaces. That’s when a fallout remover such as Iron Terminator should come into action.

Summary

Phew – you might think it’s just a wheel cleaner, yet this post sure is a deep-dive! We hope that, like us, you will become fans of Iron Terminator, especially now that it has an even cooler label. If you don’t yet have this product in your collection, now is the perfect time to get it – we highly recommend Iron Terminator for deep spring cleaning of your car or motorcycle!
